INFANT’S DEATH.
DROWNED IN RIVER. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. Feb. 22. A tlireo-year-old child, John Pound, the only son of Mr and Mrs Frederick D. Pound, of Lower Hutt, was drowned in the Hutt River near bis parents’ home at five o’clock this afternoon. He apparently wandered down to the river, undressed, donned a bathing costume, and got into the water, which is five or six feet deep. A boy and girl, children of Mr and Mrs F. J. Tansley, of Mudie Street, shortly after heard a sound from the river and saw the child floating in mid-stream. A moment later he disappeared. They immediately raised the alarm.
