MAGISTRATE’S WARNING.

YOUTH IN COURT

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 21. “It is a question of whether I should not treat this case as contempt of Court and impose an imprisonment term,” declared Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court to-day during the hearing of a case in tvmctt a youth, Stanley Arthur Dumpleton, was charged with riding a motor-cycle on December 19 not being the holder of a driver’s license. Inspector Wilson, of the Transport Department, who prosecuted, said Dumpleton had his license cancelled for two years only a week ago, when he was convicted for a driving offence. On Sunday last an inspector saw him again riding a motor-cycle along the Main North Road.

“It is a great pity you have not the power to confiscate this man’s macliine,” said the inspector, who added that he had had a long talk mth Dumpleton, who agreed to allow him to sell the cyole.

“I am tempted to give you what you deserve, young man,” declared Mr Levvey. “If you think you or others can defy the Court’s orders you had better learn otherwise. I will give you a further opportunitv, but there will be no option or further suspension if there is any repetition of this sort of thing.”

The Magistrate convicted Dumpleton and ordered him to come up for sentence within twelve months if called upon.
