EMPIRE GAMES .

C. WELLER’S POSITION. C. Weller, of Palmerston North and formerly of Wanganui, the distance runner, nominee for the Empire Games, who was to have had a trial at Palmerston North with the Wellington runner, A. J. Mackay, yesterday, advised the secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association that his legs were giving him trouble and that lie was unable to undergo the test. Weller did not consider that he would be able to run in a trial (which would be over six miles) for about a week. Whether he will be further considered for inclusion in the New Zealand team for the Empire Games at Sydney will be a matter for the New Zealand council of the Athletic Association to decide. Weller has been twice the champion harrier runner of New Zealand and in taking that title last year, all things considered, his time was an approximation of the New Zealand six miles track record.
