LAND DEVELOPMENT
MORE VIGOROUS POLICY. 12,200 ACRES SELECTED. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Dec. 16. In the course of his speech at the opening of the Orakei-korako thermal valley, the Minister of Lands (Hon. F. Langstone) said several blocks of Crown land, aggregating 12,200 acres, had been selected by the Government for development in the Rotorua, Taupo and Bay of Plenty districts. The Minister indicated that the Government proposed vigorously to pursue a policy of land development. The blocks selected, he added, included 5000 acres at Tokoroa 1200 acres at Ngakuru, 2000 acres at Taraand 4000 acres at Edgecombe. The department under his control would spend over £2,000,000 this year in land development of various types, both Native and European.
