HAWKE CUP MATCHES.
NELSON NOT TO CHALLENGE. Advice has been received by the Mannwatu Cricket Association from the New Zealand Cricket Council that the Taranaki Cricket Association has been advised that its challenge match for the Hawke Cup is to commence at Palmerston North on Christmas Day at 2 p.m. Previously the Taranaki Association had requested that the match start at a later date, but the Manawatu Association asked that it commence on Christmas Day, the day originally fixed.
A further letter from the New Zealand Council states that the Nelson Association will not be taking up its right of challenging for the cup this season. The arrangements now are that the challenge by the Rangitikei Association will be played at“the New Year. Advice has also been forwarded to the Poverty Bay Association that its match will commence on January 22, and the South Auckland Association informed that its match is to be played at the end of February. The Wanganui and Wair.anfpa. Associations have been advised that the winner of their match will have the right to take up the fifth challenge at the end of March.
