ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 16. “It was not prisoner’s lucky day when he accepted a ride from a constable,” said Mr Noble, appearing in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Fair for David Watts, aged 37, who had’admitted escaping from lawful custody at Pukekolie. Mr ‘Noble said Watts was arrested at Pukekohe on a charge of drunkenness and escaoed from detention. Since then, on another charge, he had been sentenced to and served six months imprisonment. His Honour said be would take into account the fact that Watts had been three weeks in custody awaiting sentence. He had a very bad list of minor offences. Escaping from custody was a serious charge and must be punished by imprisonment. Watts was sentenced to three months.
