The Minister of Defence (Mr lan Mackenzie), in a speech at the Military Institute, outlined the Government’s revised plans for the fortification of the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. “At present we are concentrating on the Pacific Coast for strategical reasons,” he said, “and all will appreciate that the construction of new fortifications at Esquimalt, Vancouver and York Island is under way.”
