SOME POPULAR GAMES

FOR CHRISTMAS PARTIES. AMUSING; NOT STRENUOUS. At Christmas-time nearly every family gives one or more parties, at which games of all kinds will be in demand. The most suitable games are those which provide plenty of amusement without being of too strenuous a nature. The following offer some amusing possibilities. Stage struck.—ln this game every person present is supposed to be an aspirant for film honours, except for one person who is the “studio director,” whose job it is to judge the efforts of the various aspirants. While each candidate is free to put on any “turn” that be likes, it will be found that nearly all the ‘‘contestants” have not any natural aptitude; so all they are invited to do is to step out, ope at a time, from behind a curtain and to make a “film face.” The various grimaces will cause roars of laughter. A small prize can be given, if desired, for the best performance. Telegrams is a sit-down game that provides plenty of amusement. Paper and pencils are required. Each player writes at the top of bis sheet of paper a short name, to whom the telegram is supposed to be sent. The letters in this name are then to be used as the first letters in the words which form the body of the “telegram.” As an example: One player writes the name Dot Smith. Paper is passed to someone else, who uses the letters D.0.T.5.M.1.T.H. to make the “telegram” reading: “Dad on the sozzle. Mum in the hospital.” W r ben everybody lias tried to malce up a telegram from a name, the results are read out. Prizes are given for the best and most amusing efforts. A desert drama.—For this “drama” it is assumed that every man present at the party lias been lost in the desert and is dying of thirst. Salvation arrives in the form of glasses of water- —one for each victim —which are placed on the floor. Each man is then handed a teaspoon, and has to drink all the water in bis tumbler a spoonful at a time. The one whose “life is saved” by drinking all his water first, gets a comic gift. These games, simple in themselves, cause endless amusement, They can be amplified by adding such old favourites as “Hunt the Slipper,” “Musical Chairs,” and “Consequences.”
