GERMAN AMBITIONS.
TO CANADIAN ISLAND
MONTREAL, Dec. 6.
The Premier (Mr Duplessis) has rejected a proposal by a German syndicate to purchase Anticosti Island, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, from the Consolidated Paper Corporation, its owners, at a sum estimated at considerably in excess of 6.500.000 dollars. He declared that the island was on© of Canada’s strategic outposts. The island’s pulpwood, moreover, was also unsaleable.
