AUCKLAND MAYORALTY
SIR ERNEST DAVIS NOT RETIRING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. Dec. 7. In response to the request of a large deputation this afternoon, Sir Ernest Davis has agreed to accept nomination for a further term of three years as Mayor of Auckland.- The request was made by the president of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr W. R. Fee), who was supported by prominent citizens. Mr- Eeo assured Sir Ernest Davis that a strong organisation would me set up to ensure his re-election, in view of the approaching Centenary it was essential to have as Mayor a man who had a thorough grasp of civic affairs and finance, and the personal qualifications such as Sir . Ernest possessed.
Replying, Sir Ernest Davis paid a tribute, to the co-operation of the City Council and said that, although it had been his intention to serve one term only, he had allowed himself to be persuaded to continue in office. “In the Mayoral position I know no politics,” he said. “I am neutral and, therefore, my candidature will be that of an Independent;”
Latfy Davis spoke briefly and said she was happy in her husband’s decision.
