Jones from the City Council and the appointment last evening of another Labour supporter, Mr Ralph Harrison, to the vacancy, although the elections will be held next May, spurred the opposition councillors to biting comment on Labour’s tactics and fear of the coming electors’ vote. The Labour spokesmen replied that it was following tactics of the section which had governed in the past, and it was right that Labour should retain its majority.
