MAYOR’S CHRISTMAS APPEAL

Some little girl will be overjoyed when the result of the competition for a beautiful doll, which is exhibited daily outside Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s store, is known and thousands of people will rest assured in the knowledge that they have helped bring cheer to those in need at Christmas time through..the Mayor’s Fund. This charming “baby,” who has just arrived from England to assist in the good cause, has a delicate pink-and-white complexion, brown curly hair, and deep brown eyes and she is dressed in the daintiest garments of ivory crepe-dc-chine. Her dress, made by Mrs J. Croucher, is shirred at the waist and embroidered on collar, yoke and hem with sprays of rosebuds in green and pink. Beneath is a lovely princess slip whose excellent stitchcry was fashioned by Mrs T. Hewitt, who, despite her 92 years, can etill work magic with her needle and fine cotton. The remaining garments, equally dainty, were sewn by the Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford). who is in charge of this wonder doll each day, assisted by women from the various organisations in the city, who are always willing to support a good cause. Who, seeing this attractive doll, could fail to Give i' eir mite to aid the Mayor’s Christmas Fund?

Fine wood ashes moistened with a little methylated spirit make an excellent cleanser for steelware. Apply with a piece of cork.
