MAIN HIGHWAY ROUTES

“In the three years since the Main Highways Board was last over the route considerable improvements have been carried out,” said Mr A. J. Baker, deputy-chairman of the Main Highways Board, when speaking to a “Standard” reporter yesterday on the tour of the board the Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Taupo, Rotorua, Putaruru, National Park, Marton, and Feilding areas. The hoard members arrived back in Wellington last night, after interviewing tne Foxton Borough Council, Horowhenua County Council, Levin Borough Council, and Otalsi Borough Council during the afternoon. In the three years much roading which had been unsurfaced had been completed, Mr Baker added. Indicatioris were that the summer tramc would be very heavy, and special attention was being given by the board to having the roads most used in as good a condition as possible for that traffic.
