A GOOD TRIAL.

WINSOME LU WELL. ENGAGED AT EEILDING. (By “Spectator.”) Winsome Lu, who was unlucky at Bulls, was responsible for ax good trial at New Plymouth this week. She should run well in the middle distance event at Bedding, and is engaged in the Memorial (li miles) at Otaki. Brother to Arvakur. The brood mare The Begum, dam of Stretto, Mazir and Arvakur, has produced a colt foal to Beau Pere. The now arrival is a full-brother to Arvakur. A New Arrival. Mr A. E. Lennard of Waihou, owner of Gay Rose, had a valuable addition to his thoroughbred stock last week, a colt foal by Eoxbridge from Lucy Rose, by Lucullus —Autumn Rose mare. A Taranaki Pair. Though R. Johnson lias not given Ohanga and Ngatirahiri much fast work lately, at New Plymouth, they are in good order for their racing at Feilding. Ngatirahiri is not partial to hard tracks. Might Recovers. Might, who won at both Otaki and Masterton, has recovered from the bruising ho received in his fall at Riccarton and again in transit to Wellington. Ho may be in action during the Christmas racing. Return to Form.

Raepata, who returned to form to win the Hikurangi Handicap at Whangarci, is engaged at the Takapuna meeting in mile hack events and he may be a prospect in the Pupuke Plate on the second day. -

Middle Reappearing. W. 11. Dwyer has Middle in steady work at Wanganui, and if the Centrepiece gelding goes on all right he will be seen out at Foilding. If his form there is satisfactory Middle will bo taken to Ellerslie at Christmas.

A Brief Spell. Peerless is enjoying a brief spell, and if she does well may go north for the Great Northern Foal Stakes. Defaulter has also been set aside for the time being, as he is growing, and will not bo required to race again till the autumn. Trilitho Leased.

The three-year-old filly Trilitho in J. Brown’s stable, at Hawera, purchased as a yearling in Australia by Mr W. W. Kirkland, has been leased by Mr H. B. Gibson, owner of Notium. The daughter of Trivalvo and Calitho has grown into a very neat filly and is to have her first race during the holidays.

Barcelona Runs Well. Barcelona, a half brother to Gibraltar, showed up in the maiden race at Levin to finish seventh. It was his. first outing but, contrary to expectations ho did not prove barrier shy. He • will be benefited by the experience and should soon run into a place, but it is intended to put him to jumping later. Rest For Amigo. Amigo is looking bright and well, the let-up he had after racing at Trentham having done him good. The son of Beau Pere is being given easy work by his owner-trainer, Mr L. G. Paul, as the youngster is not to race again until ho contests the Great, Northern Foal Stakes. Golden Ridge Re-appears.

A recent addition to the track workers at Woodville is,the Lnckham gelding Golden Ridge, who has .made a re-appearance after a lengthy spell. When racing a couple of seasons ago Golden Ridge proved a fair galloper and is in good order to undergo another preparation. Light Stud Season. Greek Shepherd, who is now on Mr L. J. Fechnoy’s property near Ashburton, will do a light season at the stud, after which he may be tried again. Concertpitch, who also is trained by T. H. GilIctt, is to be spelled for a couple of months and will bo taken in hand again for autmun racing. Florence Mills Resumes. Florence Mills, who won decisively in her first and only start at Wanganui in September, lias not raced since. Through contracting a cold, she did not run at Trentham, but the Nigger Minstrell filly will be seen out, for the second time this season, in tho hack 6print at Feilding. Grateful To Resume.

Although tho Raceful gelding Grateful has not been in active work long, ho has come to hand quickly, and his work is being undertaken with plenty of dash. Bearing a fine appearance as a result of a good spell, Grateful may soon atone for his failures of last autumn. Ho is to resume racing at Takapuna on Saturday. Engaged At Feilding. Relative recently ran a fast. five furlongs at Wanganui. She is engaged in the Flying

Handicap at Feilding, and she should'give a good account of herself. The Posterity filly showed good form at Trentham, and has gone on the right way since. It. is probable Relative will return to F. Davis’s stable at Woodville after racing at 1* eliding. Imposture and Minga are two from W. Rayner’s Wanganui team to raco at Foilding.

Royal IMinstrel Injured. The four-year-old Nigger Minstrel - Charlady gelding Royal Minstrel, owned and trained by Mr C. P. Haldane, Hastings, suffered an injury at Te Rapa, Waikato, on Friday last when ho got his foot into a hole. This is bad luck for Mr Haldane, as the gelding was to eom : pete in two valuable races at tho Waikato meeting, and his recent good- form suggested he had excellent chances.

Three New Youngsters. Owner of Dungarvan, who is still out in the paddock, Mr J. C. Kennedy has a nice filly by Siegfried from Haligan, the dam of View Halloo, but unfortunately Haligan has died. A brown colt by Inflation from Kilcannon, by Diogenes—Canyon, is very much like Paper Slipper, and a third young one is a filly by Inflation from a mare by Diaquenod from Avola, a Bisogne mare who won many good races for W. Pine a few years ago. Palustre’s Next Start.

Palustre has not been asked any serious questions since her double success at the Dargaville meeting. The Tea Tray filly is looking very well and is to race at Takapuna. Palustre has undoubtedly become very solid, and in six starts this season has won three times and been placed second twice. She is owned by Mrs C. McGregor, better known in trotting circles as tho owner of Bronze Queen, Gold Dredge, and Lady Potts. Master Brierly’s Effort.

Ridden a perfect race on the fence Jonathan was never further back than third in the Waikato Cup, and 50 yards from homo ho looked tho winner, but an outsider in Master Bricrly put in one of his old-time finishing runs and got up to dead-heat with him. The latter was in a good position early, but dropped back to eighth. However, ho put in great work over tho last couple of furlongs and very nearly brought off a big surprise. Master Bricrly should be in first-class condition when produced at Takapuna on Saturday. Rollicker Greatly Improved. Rollicker, who followed up his success in tho Tararua Handicap by winning the Hautapu Hack Handicap at Te Rapa on Saturday, is a greatly improved horse. Piloted by W. J. Broughton, he was drawn very wide out, but ho wont to tho front after going a furlong and stayed there, though he had to be ridden out to hold off Taillight, tho Awapuni candidate. The latter was always in a handy position, and ran oil well in the straight, but he just failed to reach Rollicker. Taillight is in great order to enter on the j holiday racing. He has run well at every start this season.
