BOOT TRADE.
HELP FOR INDUSTRY. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 23. “After talking over with its representative the position facing the hoot manufacturing industry, I promised that I would discuss matters with other members of Cabinet to see if an announcement of the , Government’s intentions to help the industry could be expedited,” said the Minister of Labour, Hon. H. T. Armstrong, . today. Boot manufacturers .were concerned with the likelihood of having to put off further operatives, he added. They felt that many of the operatives dismissed would drift into other avenues of employment and that, when trade revived again, their skilled services would be lost to the industry. If the industry knew definitely the Government’s intentions it could plan ahead and, by'adding to stocks to meet the demand when normal conditions returned, it could retain the services of men who otherwise might have to be dismissed.
