A patent process had been brought out in the Manawatu district for the conversion of the vegetation that fell from the flax stripping machine into a cattle food. The Feilding A. and P. Association had decided against granting a request from the Wanganui Education Board that the association contribute a sum annually towards salary of an agricultural instructor in schools. The association had pointed out that it donated from £2O to £25 every year for prize money for school garden competitions. • Sixty-two Bills had been passed into law during the past session of the New Zealand Parliament. Blight had appeared among the potato crops throughout the Hutt Valley, some having been seriously affected. Tho Antartio Exploration ship Nimrod had arrived at Lyttelton, prior to its expedition, which was to take place under the command of Lieutenant Shackleton. It was the opinion of yachting experts that there would be no more races for' the America’s Cup unless the conditions of the race were varied. Declaring himself to be a descendant of the Duke of Portland, a Christchurch resident, who was the son, of an American merchant, had laid claim to the Portland estate.
