Although there was bright sunshine over most of England, London lay under a thick pall of fog yesterday, which was the coldest November day for fourteen years. There was a widespread shipping hold-up over the week-end in the Thames estuary, the North Sea and the Channel. Roads in many parts of the country were ice-bound and road traffic impeded by snow which fell in several districts.
