PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Nov. 22. Visiting Mrs W. H. Lawry, of Tararua Street, are Mr and Mrs E. E. Goss, of Levin. On Saturday thfe final matches of the Bush Cricket Association’s first round series were concluded, when Pahiatua secured a three-point win from Mangamaire. Eket-ahuna secured two points as the result of their match against Mn.uricevilJe. The annual sports of the Pahiatua District High School, which had twice been postponed owing to the' inclement weather, were held to-day before a small attendance. A narrow escape from injury was experienced by Mr A. V. Udy, of Hukanui, when travelling back to his farm with a motor lorry load of explosives on Friday. The lorry left the HamuaHukanui Road, ploughed through a swamp and came to rest against a power pole, which broke, bringing down the electric wires. Mr G. Sunnex,
the driver of a motor lorry in which Mr R. Wilson was a passenger, also had a narrow escape from injury when, negotiating the Manga tain oka River near Hukanui, a wall of water broke without warning and submerged the vehicle. Both men managed to reach the bank.
