WORK AT AWAPUNI. A QUIET MORNING., (By “Spectator.”) • Training activities on the - Awapuni trac'k were comparatively quiet this morning, and most of the fast work in preparation for the Feilding fixture will probably be done, on Thursday. Nearly tti! the galloping took place on the plough, which was heavy, after a fall, of rain during the night. . . Surmount, whose next mission will pe the Great Northern Foal Stakes' made hi* first appearance since his return from Kiccarton, but was not galloped, doing a very easy five furlongs on the plough in 1.10 2-5. Ho contracted a cough at Riccarton, and is just shaking off "a slight cold, but looks well. ' ■ , ,rp„* Great Hope (Lilley) and Tidowaitor (Tattersall) ran five furlongs together on the plough in 1.8 4-6. Tidewaiter is in tiptop condition, and probably failed at Levin because of inability to negotiate the sharp turn* on the course, while the going was not to his liking. , ..• Alby has been getting through steady ■work at Awapuni, though he has not raced since the Marton spring meeting, and he was exercised on the plough this morning. . Noisy Night (S. Anderson) and I'inal (Chaplin) were associated in a gallop on the plough, and the former, who will have his first raco in his present ownership at Feilding, appeared to be going a nttie better than his companion to cover live furlongs in 1.7 1-5, the first two taking a shade under 2590 c, and the first three 39 Laughing Lass, Gay Boy, The Crooner, Catalogue, Old Surrey, Wagner, Barcelona, the Pink Coat-Geisha colt, Oratory, Hunting Queen, The Buzzer and The Bigot were all allotted very light work on the inner track. • The Bigot has been eased slightly sinoe his return from Riccarton, and appears to have put on condition. Dawning Light (Anderson) left five furlongs behind on the plough in 1.6 2-5. Round Score was given an easy live furlongs in 1.10 4-5 on the plough. Wildflower (J. Leach) started off on a gallop with Aria (Rac) on the plough, but the latter’s saddle slipped and Wildfiower ran away from her companion to do halt a mile in 52isec. .. . Coroboree (Johnson) was sent a mile on the plough, hut was not asked for anything in the nature of a serious effort in covering the distance in 1.49}. Dunmanaway (I. IIowo), on the course proper, took 53seo for the half-mile. Orient Dawn (Howe), sont seven furlongs on the plough, took 1.34 for the distance, the first five furlongs occupying 1 Excellent progress has been made with the erection of the twenty new stalls and sand-roll, and those additional facilities are nearing completion.
