REOPENING OF ACADEMY.

D’ANNUNZIO ABSENT. ROME, Nov. 22. The absence of the Italian Arbiter and nationalist, Gabriele D’Annunzio, from the reopening of the Royal Italian Academy, of Avhich he is president, occasioned surprise. Signor D’Annunzio sent a brief message of homage to the academy. It is stated that lie declined to attend Avhen he learned he Avould not be accorded a public reception on his arrival at Rome. He has alivays been a friend of France, and there seems to be an idea that he might make embarrassing statements on international affairs.
