PERFORMED WELL

NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS.

SUSEX OUT FOR 151. TOURISTS SCORE 176 FOR FIVE. (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyrignt.) BRIGHTON, Aug. 29.

After losing another Saturday toss, the New Zealand cricket team performed outstandingly against Sussex, which is fourth in the county championship, yesterday. Lowry’s clever management of the bowling and the placing of the field, combined with the steadiness of the attack and the smartness of the fielding, yielded five wickets to New Zealand before lunch.

James Langridge, former coach at Auckland, made a determined stand, scoring 36. Parks (30) and Griffiths (10), members of E. R. T. Holmes’s team in New Zealand, also shaped well. The New Zealand bowlers, however, always held the whip hand. Cowie, despite the strain of seven hard games in, succession, bowled with great life, four times hitting the stumps. Moloney bowled with a consistent length and persistent spin. Donnelly was responsible for a brilliant run out; while Hadlee made a fine catch at short square leg. Enterprising batting soon gave the tourists a lead. Hadlee’s 76 was a fine exhibition • of tree strokes and beautiful ' driving. His innings included 11 fours and one six over the lunch marquee and into the adjoining tennis courts. He attained four figures in first-class matches, joining Wallace, Donnelly, Moloney and V vian. Kerr was also confident and aggressive, scoring quickly all round the wicket. His 50 included eight fours. He was dismissed through wonderfully fast stumping. . . Tate, despite his increasing weignt and diminished pace, was easily the outstanding Sussex bowler. Wallace returned to the New Zealand side although his right thumb is still bandaged. . The New Zealand team is: Lowry, Kerr Hadlee, Wallace, Vivian, MoloUL y, linanl, Roberts, Dunning, Cowie, Donnelly.
