NAVAL INCIDENT.

BRITISH STEAMER STOPPED. LONDON, \Aug. 29. The Japanese stooped the British steamer Shenking off Woosung, and the British admiral protested and asked for' an explanation, it is reported in a Shanghai dispatch. A later message states that the British and Japanese naval authorities at Shanghai deny that the steamer Shenking was stopped, and also that ViceAdmiral Little protested. They explain that a Japanese warship signalled the Shenking and allowed her to pass when she disclosed her identity. The British Navy chartered her to assist in the evacuation at Shanghai and to bring naval and military supplies from Hong Kong. The British destroyer Delight is hurrying from Hong Kong to Foochow, where anti-Japanese riots may endanger foreigners. Japan has withdrawn her consular staff and 100 nationals from Amoy, where Chinese irregulars are conducting a' siege.
