NATIVE GATHERING.
POLITICAL DISCUSSIONS. A large conference of Natives, numbering 200 members of tlie Muaupoko Tribe, was held in Levin on Friday. Similar meetings are being held in other parts of the Dominion to organise the Maori people into unanimity under the Labour Party’s platform, with a view to securing an equal footin<r in every social service such as the Europeans now enjoy. Among the visitors present were the following members of the Maori Advisory Qouncil set up by the Government; Mr E ’T Tirikatene, M.P. for the southern electorate; Mr H. T. Ratana, M.P. for the western electorate; Bun. R. Moffat, a member of the Legislative Council; Mr P. K. Paikea, secretary of the Maori Advisory Council; and Rev. Father Durning, of Otaki. The discussions, which were all carried out in the Maori language, lasted throughout the afternoon.
