CASE AT AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. A motor truck without a. rear light was observed by the police passing through Avondale on Saturday evening, and when it stopped at a service station the driver, Allan Bruce Chisholm, aged 21, was found to be intoxicated. When he was charged in the, Police Court this morning he admitted the offence, stating that he had been without food since breakfast. The liquor had been taken to celebrate a football victory and it had unduly affected him. The police, gave Chisholm a good character, stating that he was the sole support of his mother and two other relatives. Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., said lie niade it a rule, in such cases to take the licenses, away from the offenders, but 'lie was prepared to treat this as sjll exceptional case. “You are a young man, well spoken, of industrious and good character,”- said the Magistrate. “You will be admitted to probation for two years on condition that you talce out a prohibition order for that period.” Chisholm was fined 5s and costs for driving without a rear light.
