LATE-COMERS REBUKED.

CONDUCTOR STOPS DUET,

LONDON, Aug. 6.

While conducting a performance of “Elijah” at the eisteddfod at Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, Sir Adrian Boult suddenly stopped a duet sung by Mr Harold Williams and Miss Isobel Baillie, because of interruption by latecomers.

Addressing the audience of 10,000 persons, Sir Adrian Boult said: “A few’tof you have mined one of Mendelssohn’s finest songs. Shall I ask them to sing it again ?” The audience shouted “Yes,” and cheered. The duet was then repeated amid silence.
