The" following were present at the monthly meeting of the executive council of tiie New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, which was at Wellington recently: Messrs F. S. Pope (president), J. A. Campbell, H. J. Poole, W. S. Mason, W. Hyde, and G. S. Nicoll (secretary). __ An apology was received from Mr V. lv. Dallas. Advice from the Nelson City Council of the appointment of Mr A. White, N.D.H. (N.Z.), formerly of Waiinate, as curator of parks and reserves was noted with appreciation. Regret was directed to he conveyed to the Taranaki district council on the resignation from its chairmanship ot Mr T. Florton. Congratulations were expressed for the new chairman, Mi G. H. Huthnance. Mr J. A. McPherson, curator of the botanic gardens, Christchurch, advised of the transfer of Mr R. W. Batch, N.D.FI. (N.Z.), and Cockayne Gold Medallist, 1936. to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The Canterbury district council advised of the presentation of the Cockayne Memorial Gold Medal to this diplomaholder.

Congratulations were directed to be conveyed to Southland on the work done in connection with Arbor Daycelebrations.
