OBITUARY.

MR J. G- PATERSON. The death has occurred of an official of the Manukau County Council, Mr James George Paterson, of Papatoetoe, who was closely associated with much of the development of the county interests over the last 24 years. Mr Paterson, who was a son of the late Mr A. Paterson, was born at Otepopo, Otago, almost 70 years ago. and in his early married life ho settled in Palmerston North, being associated with the contracting business. He was a member of the Manawatu Mounted Rifles for many years and officiated as clerk of course to the Manawatu Racing Club for eight years. During the South African War Mr Paterson, who was formerly a notable horsebreaker, was closely connected with the Remount Depot and bandied hundreds of mounts in preparation for service overseas. Mr Paterson went to Auckland in 1910 and was in the service of various contracting and livery firms prior to entering the employ of the Manukau County Council as road overseer and foreman. Mr Paterson is survived l>v his wife, one son and three daughters.
