TROTTING NOTES.

REPORTER'S SEVEN WINS. RAPIDLY IMPROVED PACER. (By 'Squar'c-G-aiter.") After competing- in fourteen races last season without getting a place Reporter has more than made- amends during the 1936-37 period. His total earnings in stakes for the present term are £1825. In seventeen starts he has won seven races, has been second five- times, and third once. The improvement he has made this year has been remarkable, and until recently lie was only rogardod as a sprinter. After several brilliant achievements over .short distances he romped homo in a two-mile race at Addington in Juno. It was a 4.29 class. His success places him among the likely horses to qualify for Now Zealand Trotting Cup class at the spring meetings. Reporter is a clovor pacer, and has been successful under all conditions. He is by Wrack from Scottish Queen, and was foaled in 1929. He is a half-brother to Harold Denver (2.48 3-5) and Compass (3.23 4-5). Reporter has a mile record of 2.8 1-5, and is assessed at 2.8, 2.41 and 4.27.

Breeding Of Tagua. Tagua, winner of the Winter Trot Handicap at the Waimate Hunt meeting, is a gelding by Rey de Oro—Tit Bits. Though he is eight years old he has done very little racing; but, trained at New Brighton by G. Cameron, he has shown some promise in his work. He has breeding behind him, for his dam, Tit Bits, was by Prince Imperial—Bequest, the dam of Free Point-

er, Arran Chief, Benefice, and High Noon, Tagua might have been well served through not being overtaxed, and he shoula win more races. Wellington Club’s Profit. The Wellington Trotting .Club made a profit of £2943 Is 3d ■ during, tho past season, its most successful for many years. Wrackler Still Brilliant.

Wrackler, who is possibly the best allround performer ever raced in New’ Zealand, is getting on in years; but liis brilliance is not being dimmed, and he promises to conio up fit and well for tho new season’s racing. Like several other good trottors, Wrackler’s chances are restricted through lack of races to suit him.

Policy Shows Promise. Policy, who raced in tho trotting event at Washdyko to-day, is a tour-year-old filly by Grattan Loyal—Mavis Bingen, and is trained b/‘ A. Fairbairn. This filly haE done little racing, but at tho Ilororata meeting last December she showed form in running second to Iloathor Queen ir. tho Snowden Handicap in 3min 25 l-sseo Heather Queen has since, proved herself a very smart pacer. Policy has breeding to recommend her, for she is by Grattan Loyal from Mavis Bingen, by Huia Dillon from Bell Bingen, a three-quarter sister to Great Bingen. Mavis Bingen, who was foaled in 1918, holds a mile and a-half record of 3min 34 4-ssec. Three Brothers.

Three brothers in Long Voyage, Iluon Voyage, and Radio Trip huvo established a fine record for endurance. Long Voyage, who was foaled in 1917, is still racing in Victoria, and Huon Voyage, who was foaled in 1920, made a good name as a trotter in Australia before being brought to New Zealand by Mr F. B. McFarlane. At Ashburton Huon Voyage rcgisterod 4.23 when ho ran second in a twomile race. This is oven bettor than the American importation Peterwah, who won in 4.24. Huon Voyage was eventually secured -by Mr G. J. Barton, in whoso colours he put up several good performances. He was retired two years ago. Radio Trip was also a good trotter, and won several races over a long period, but he never reached the same standard as Huon Voyage. Record For Age. The three-year-old Tasmanian pacer Golconda, has established a new record for his age by winning ten races since March. As ho was beaten into second place on March 13, his ten successes are not in sequence, but he has won eight in a row. Unlike nearly all tho Globe Derby progeny, Goleonda is only a pony, but lio is expected to develop greatly. He has inherited his sine’s characteristics. When travelling fast, he has tho remarkable habit of hoisting his tail. With nearly all horses this is a prelude to drifting out of tho race. A majority of horsemen interpret such an act ns that of a horse that is faint hearted (says an observer). Not so with Golconda. He keeps going, and though his style of pacing creates the impression that he is all out, ho exhibits the utmost gameness, and responds under pressure. In his last win, when half-way up the straight, it looked as if tho little horse would be beaten by suoh a determined finisher as Logan Derby, but lie came again, anu beat his illustrious rival.

A Promising Pacer. Real Jowel, a two-year-old by Jewel Pointer —Harvest Home, is regarded as one of the most promising young pacers in the Auckland district. It ;s reported that he will shortly join an Addington stable.

Change Of Stables. Amonos, who showed greatly improved form when transferred to W. Barron’s stable last season, has had another change of trainers, and is now with J. Young at Addington. He is in nice order and will do his next racing at Addington in August. Another trotter in Young’s caro is Teviot Downs, who for a period was raced by Mr G. J. Barton.
