TO-MORROW’S MEETINGS

HORSES IN FORM. (By “Spectator.”) Tho Rangitikci Hunt Club’s meeting is to be held at Marton to-morrow. His Excellency tho Governor-General, Lord Galway, will be present at the mooting, and will present the trophies. There aro unusually large fields engaged and in the open events they represent good class. The coureo is reported to be in excellent condition.

Horses which may find favour are:— Glonmoro Maiden Race. —Royal Choice, Kio, Conversion.

HORSES IN FORM. Horses likoly to be in favour at tho South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting tomorrow aro as follow: — Hadlow Hurdles.—Sunny Comet, Cottingham, Double Shot. Paroroa Steeplechase.—Waikari, First Spec, Mocailpoin. * South Canterbury Steeplechase.—Airctic Star, Trisox, Streamline. Levels Hack Handicap.—Peacock, Uithyia. Su rvoy. Wnfihdyke Trot Handicap.—Tagua, Crushocn, Great Autumn.

Tcsqhemaker Steeplechase.—Uncle Jim, Black Banner, Night Parade. Pontlow Hack Handicap.—Silver Slipper, Grampian, Donadea. Claremont Handicap.—Royal Gallant, Swordstick, Queen Dorothy.

Brilliant Acre. Brilliant Acre is the only Auckland horse engaged at Marton, and he will need to improve considerably if he is to beat even the moderate hacks opposed to him there (says an exchange). There is no doubt about his speed, for ho has pace to burn, although ho has not stayed on sufficiently well to win a raco to date. His best efforts were at Whangarci last autumn, and then ho did well enough to souggest that ho was improving. Over five furlongs in tho maiden raco ho can bo given a chance. If tried over the sticks tho four-year-old may be made more solid.

A Smart Galloper. Rosanna, who put up a crcditablo performance in filling second place to Donadea in the maiden event at Waimato and is engaged at Washdyke to-morrow, is a five-year-old by Rosenor, and .this was her third Vace only. She did not get away well, and was chocked turning for home, otherwise she would have boon more prominent. Rosanna is trained at Orari by P. Stock, formerly of Iticcarton, who also has Silver Slipper in his stable. Highborn for Sydtiey. The rising thrce-ycar-old Highborn, owned by Dr W. C. Ring, left Auckland for Sydney to-day, accompanied by his owner. Highborn is an Australian-bred colt by Baralong from Nobility, and his best performance as a two-year-old this season was in winning the Nursery Handicap, six furlongs, on the second day of the Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn meeting last April. Highborn will go into J. T. Jamieson’s stable. Trio for Avondale.

A trio of two-year-olds J. M. Bu- i chanan has on "hand at Ellorslie, Bronze Wing, Clansman, and Bright Idea, should bo ready to start racing as three-year-olds at the Avondale fixture, and they ought to be all the better for the patience their trainer has expended on them. Bronze Wing is by Bronze Eagle from Lady Latour, a daughter of General Latour, and he is beginning to show tho quality of his sire. Clansman may also do well, for ho is by the successful sire Vaak from a sister to Kelly in. Judy Kelly. Yaals is the sire of Vadanoc and Rhodesian, two speedy youngsters who scored at Foxton and Otaki respectively. Rainier is Speedy. Rainer and Hot Shot, the two rising thrcc-ycar-olds in R. S. Bagby’s stable, are being sent along a bit faster in. their work and hit out freely in a sprint over a couple of furlongs this week. Both these juveniles havo done well since the autumn and are a promising pair for spring engagements. Tho class that Rainier beat in tho Trial Stakes at Whangarei last April was moderate; still, lie was very “green,” and something better can be expected of him during the new term. Ho is speedy, and an Australian trip for him is by no means a remote possibility. First Spec’s Breeding. First Spec, who made a crcditablo show in the Hunt Club Cup Steeples at Waimate, and is racing at Washdyko to-mor-row, is a rising five-year-old by Some Spec from Pastoral, by Royal Fusilier—Cantatricc, by Goldsborough. Some Spec was got by Royal Divorce—Waitora, by Provocation —Torowai, by Waterfall—Parlour Maid, by Mute—Maid of All Work, by Malton.

Taranaki Gallops. Winsome Lu was much too good for Brilliancy over five furlongs in 1.8 2-5 at New Plymouth this week. Sho was conceding about a stone and a half, but finished two lengths in front, with something in hand. Ripplo surprised by boating Clcssainor over throe furlongs in 41 2-5 see. ltipple handled the going well.

Platter for Gisborne. Formerly trained at Woodville, Platter, who showed promise as a jumper and is now a member of L. Dulieu’s team, is to contest the steeplechase events at the Gisborne meeting. Black Banner Prominent. Black Banner, who is in steeplechase events at the South Canterbury meeting to-morrow, also has important engagements at the Grand National meeting. This gelding has performed well over country this season and he should add to his record boforo the winter racing is through. At the Riverton meeting last Easter he won the Waiau SteepJee and the Autumn Steeples, while in his next effort ho was runner-up to Shillelagh Wood in the Ritchio Memorial Steeples at Southland. Going on to the Birchwood Hunt meeting, he occupied a similar position to Trisox in the lull Steeplechase, about two miles. He reversed positions with Trieox in the Otautau Steeplechase, also held on the Southland course, a little later. At the Dunedin winter meeting lie was second to Nocturnus in the Otago Steeplechase, about two miles and a half. Tn his last eight starts he has only been out of the money twice. Black Banner is by Balboa, who won the Auckland Cup in 1915. Fleetwind Showing Dash. Sinco being recoramisfiionod Fleetwind has made good headway and is now beginning to put moro dash into her work. Tins mare usually races well fresh, so hor <~o n ‘ nections may not have to wait long before she earns some moro money. As Flcotivind comes from the same family as Bonnettor, Tarlcton, Morvctto and Historic, all ot whom were proved performers, her value as a stud matron when her racing career ends should be invaluable. Versant Looking Weil.

Since racing at the Great Northern meeting, whore he was successful over six furlongs on the opening day, Versant has done everything asked of him in a satisfactory manner. The bulk of his tasks have been confined to strong pace work and he is thriving on it, for it is doubtful .if the brown gelding has ever looked better at this period of the season. A proved galloper in heavy ground, Versant is worth keeping in mind during the spring meetings. Morris Bros* Mounts.

Arangements have been jnade. for E. G. Morris to ride Trench Fight in the >v inter Cup. The mount was offered to D. J. Ellis, but there is a doubt regarding his being able to accept any mounts at tho Grand National meeting. B. H Morris has been engaged to ride Dictate in the Winter Cup. This gelding developed a splint a few weeks back and was blistered. He has not yet recovered from the effects, and his work during the past week has been confined to trotting.
