GAS WORKERS’ BALLOT.
SELECTION Dlf UNION. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, July 19. The Department of Labour is taking a ballot to-morrow of all workers employed at gas works other than those workers employed substantially as skilled tradesmen. The issue is whether the workers desire to l>e members of the proposed New Zealand Gas Employees’ Union or of the existing union 'covering the work in which they are engaged. The department states: “It has come to the notice of the department that circulars have been issued by the national secretary of the Gas Workers’ Union advising workers hoiv to vote. The Government desires it to ho understood that the workers are free to vote as they wish and not to have any regard to any directions given by either side.”
