CELEBRATIONS HELD. THANKSGIVING SERVICE.’ (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 19. The first “Merchant Navy Week” ever held began during the week-end at Southampton. It is designed to bring home to landsmen the immense national importance of the merchant service. The King sent a telegram of good wishes and the opening ceremony was performed bv Princess Alice, who*was accompanied by her husband, the Earl of Athlone.

A thanksgiving service for the merchant navy, attended by 15,000\ people, was held yesterday, when officers and men representing all the shipping companies using Southampton Port marched in procession, carrying their house flags to the qauyside, where the service was held.
