PRODIGAL’S RETURN.
...MAORI’S STORY AT SYDNEY. SYDNEY, July 19. “I am a prodigal son. I will return to my tribe. But my father will not be there to greet me,” said Mr Para Amahana, who is returning to New Zealand to govern his tribe following his father’s death, when interviewed at Perth. He said he had stowed away in a ship to Australia following a disagreement with his father, a.nd eventually got to England, where lie was employed chopping wood and mending clothes for a North London workhouse when he received the news of Ins father’s death. He secured a job on the new trawler St. Dolan. With hands blistered through shovelling coal, and having suffered the discomforts of such a long voyage in a small craft. Amahana is still hopeful. He said, “My life after leaving my father has been hard, hut now 1 aiii returning at great pain and discomfort to live in peace and happiness.”
