SIX MONTHS’ GAOL.
FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. Per Press Association. HASTINGS. July 21. A sentence of six months’ imprisonmen! was imposed on Richard Nesbit bv Mr J. M’ller. S.M.. in the Hastings Court this morning on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond in that be bad oollected subscriptions under false pretences by falsely representing that certain art union tickets were genuine. Accused pleaded sruiltv. A further eh"rge of being idle and disorderlv with insufficient lawful means of support was withdrawn by the police.
D-tective-fiergeant Revel! said that Nesbit had had 1000 art union tickets nrinted and had sold them for his own benefit. He had tried unsuccessfully to get more tickets printed bv a Hast inas printer, and in that vav ho had been apprehended. Noshit's excuse to the police was that he had begun bv selling two books of genuine art union tickets in aid of New Zealand artists and bad then conceived the idea of having false ones printed.
