NEEDLEWOMAN’S NOTEBOOK.
When pressing seams, open the seam with a wet tooth-brush kept for the purpose, and so avoid wetting tho surrounding material. JVhen threading new elastic, tack the new elastic to the end of the old piece so that in pulling out the old you draw through the new. Before sewing on press-studs oi hooks and eyes, boil them in strong soda water, as this prevents their rusting on the garment. JVhen knitting, never join the wool in the middle of a row; this is mi-■ satisfactory, however carefully carried ctut. It should be made at the beginning of a row, then the ends can betaken in with the seams or darned to the sides. Keep a piece of beeswax in the sewing basket, and when you are sewing on buttons rub the thread with wax. It is a good plan to have a “mushroom” painted black for light darning, and one painted white for dark work, as this makes it easier to distinguish the threads and tries the eyes less.
