(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, July 19. Tho friends of I\lr and Mrs J. A. Brooking (formerly Miss Jean Blixt) welcomed them on their return from their honeymoon with a social evening in, the Rauinai Hull. A very pleasant evening was spent in [dancing, interspersed with items. Skipping [dances were presented hy Miss Carlston, 'and tap dances hy Joy Burrell and Coraiie Blenkherue. They wore the pupils of Mis* ! Juno Scott, ,who played the aoeompani- | tnenls. Songs hy Mrs ( laphain, Mrs Blixt, land Mis X. Tucker wc:e appreciated, the accompanists being Miss B. Claphani and [Miss D. Watson. Mr W. Howell spoke ; briefly, referring to the young couple's j popularity in the district, and to Mrs 'Brooking’s outstanding qualities and sueI cesses in her former profession, nursing. She had brought credit to the district. 'On behalf of tho rosidentfi of the Valley, jMr Howell asked tho guests of honour to accept an oak chiming clock as a token of esteem. Dance music was provided by an electric pick-up and gramophone operated by Mr FitzHerbort, extra dances being ■ played by Mrs Claphani and Mrs Blixt. j Owing to inclement weather no competition shoot was held on Saturday by tho Rifle t'luh. The season now having concluded, the results of the aggregate chaniI pionehipn are announced as follow; Open championship (Fitzsimmons Cup and miniature), M. FitzHerbort, 635; A. Rainier, 633; I. Neill, 624; handicap aggregate (Mr J. J. Roberts’s trophy), M. FitzHcrbort, 776; A. Balmer, 762; 6'. Gavin, 725.

There was a good attendance at the euchre parly in the rohangina Hall on Saturday evening in aid of the Anglican Church fluids. Miss B. Harland won the ladies’ trophy, the consolation prize being awarded to Mrs F. Wagstaff, who tied with Miss N. Harland. In the men’s section, Mr W. Webb scored the most points. Tho conso'ation prize was shared by Messrs T. Sinclair and D. Bockett. The trophies were donated by Mrs Blixt. to whom Mr A. K. Orgias expressed the committee’s thanks. After supper a short dance was held.

Mim B. Bockett, of Fcatherston. is the guest of Mr and Mrs B. B. Bockett, of Raumai. Messrs G. and L. Wagstaff have returned from a three weeks’ motor tour of tho North Island. Messrs R. and V. Sinclair have returned from a holiday in the South Island.
