FISHING INDUSTRY.
INVESTIGATION AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. .AUCKLAND, July 20. After making extensive inquiries into the conditions ruling in the fishing industry i.n Auckland, the Sea Fisheries Investigation Committee completed its Auckland sitting to-day after a three weeks’ session. The chairman (Mr J. Thorn, M.P.) stated that the committee would leave for Whangarei to-morrow to hear evidence at Wliangarei, Wliangaroa, Russell, ICaitaia, and HelensviTle, and to investigate the operations of the industry at Ninety Alile Beach. The committee will go to New Plymouth on August 3 and is duo at Wellington on August 7. A considerable amount of evidence was heard by the committee during its two last days in Auckland. A lengthy statement on tlio desirability of raising the qualifications as to navigation on fishing vessels was submitted bv Captain C. Daniel, Inspector of Fisheries. He also tendered evidence on the conservation of supplies and restrictions on fishing. During the week-end members of the committee inspected the sheds of the fishing companies in Auckland and took particulars of the refrigerating plants and the companies’ financial operations.
