MATCH WITH SOUTHLAND
FIRST TEST’S EFFECT
Radio and modern transport set a problem for the Manawatu Rugby Union’s management committee at its weekly meeting, last evening, when a request was received from the Southland Rugby Union that their touring team plav the Manawatu team on the Friday "or Monday, August 13 or 16, and not on August 14, which was originally fixed —but which is the Rate of the first Test between the New. Zealand and South African teams at Wellington. Mr J. R. Hardie: What do they want to do. listen in? The chairman (Mr A. M. Ongley): Perhaps they want to cut the match out altogether. Mr Hardie: We could not cancel it. Thev a're the touring side. Dir H. J. Hickey: It is a pity we could not play the match in Wellington as the curtain-raiser to the Test! Why not play the game at 3.30 p.m. on "the Monday? The chairman: We will get as many spectators on the Monday as we would on the Saturday. Mr Hickey moved that the Southland union bo offered August 16 as the date of the match, the game to commence at 3.30 p.m. The motion was carried. It was decided later that all Rugby matches in the union on August 14 be postponed - .
