INVENTOR’S DEATH
MARCHESE MARCONI. ORIGINATOR OF WIRELESS. UNEXPECTED PASSING. (United Press Association.—By Electric ' Telegraph.—Copyright.) ROME, July 20. The death has occurred of Marchese Guglielmo Marconi, the originator of wireless communication. He recently showed signs of fatigue, but no signs of sickness. Upon retiring, he lapsed into unconsciousness during the night and expired of heart failure at 3.45 a.m.
The Pope, with whom he had an audience on Sunday, was informed, and at Mass dedicated prayers for Marchese Marconi’s soul.
BRITISH TRIBUTES. (British Official Wireless.) Received July 21, 11.55 a.m. RUGBY, July 20. Numerous tributes to the late Marchese Marconi were paid by British scientists and other leading men in Britain. On all sides lie is acknowledged as one of the greatest geniuses of recent times. The flags at Broadcasting House were flown at half-mast, and the 8.8. C. has issued a statement expressing the profound regret which all listeners share in the death of one to whom broadcasting throughout the world owed an immeasurable debt.
