FATAL BURNS
ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, July 19. Through her clothing catching alight when she was sitting before a lire oil Sunday evening, an elderly woman, Airs Alary Baxter Jones, aged 83, residing at Drummond, suffered severe burns and her death from shock occurred a few hours later. At tlie inquest to-day David Jones, a son, said his mother had been an invalid for some years and resided with him. At 5.30 on Sunday evening she had been sitting in front of a fire in her room, anil her sudden cries attracted attention. It was found that her clothing had caught alight and she suffered burns about the body before the blazing clothing could he removed.
The coroner returned a verdict of death from shock following burns.
