WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Trading was inactive on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, and the turnover was on the light side. Prices showed no marked change and were mostly firm. Three small parcels of Government 4 per cent, loans sold at firm ratea Bank shares were dull with a weaker tendency. New Zealand sold at 43s 9d, and more were wanted at that price, sellers asking 44s 3d. Commercial of Australia wpro bid for at 18s 4d and the preference issue hardened to £9 9s without response-. New South Wales wero wanted at £35 2s 6d, sellers asking £35 10s. Bank of New Zealand, D mortgage shares, advanced to 27s 6d. There was a good demand for gas shares at steady rates. Insurance issues were a snado easier. Breweries were quiet and Staples eased to 50s 3d. There were sellers of New Zealand at 50s 9d. Tooths wero quoted at 555, sellers 9d higher. Miscellaneous industrial and trading issues were generally fir nil British Tobacco had sales at 50s, and Broken Hill Proprietary sold at 84s 3d. more being wanted at that price. Colonial Sugar were easier at £47 ss, sellers £47 15s. Dunlop-Pcrdriau wero quoted at 23s 3d, sellers 23s 9d. Henry Jones had unanswered buyers in at 48s. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
