LABOURER KILLED.
ACCIDENT ON RAILWAY
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 19. The first fatal accident on the South Main Trunk railway construction works occurred on Saturday when Augustus Oscar Cottington. aged 48. married, of Blenheim, labourer, was killed instantly by being run over by a rake of tracks conveying spoil from the tunnel at Oliau Bluff to the tip on the sea shore. Cottington was engaged in repairing the rail track and the noise from the air compressor in the vicinity prevented him hearing the approach of the trucks. The body was removed to Kaikoura.
