“NEITHERDEAD NOR MORIBUND.”

(British Official Wireless.) Received July 20, 1.30 p.m. i RUGBY, July 12. In a speech in the House of Commons, Mr R. A. Eden dealt with economic questions, stating that Britain believed that the removal of trade barriers would assist in easing the political tension. The tripartite monetary declaration had the same aim. Britain was prepared to collaborate in a League of Nations inquiry into equal access to raw materials to promote the removal of the economic causes of international friction.

He reiterated that the League of Nations was neither dead nor moribund and stated that nothing could be more against the restoration of_ the League’s authority than a situation in which the world was divided into two groups of Powers, one inside and the other outside the League. There was room at Geneva for all countries. Mr Eden concluded that the outlook was not wholly bad and said he was certain that none ivanted war, and he had a greater measure of hope than a year ago that the nations of Europe would yet compose their differences peacefully.
