LONDON’S DEFENCES

MYSTERIOUS “TESTS.”

UNAUTHORISED ACTIVITIES

“WILL DROP FLOUR BOMBS.” (United Press Association—By Electric . . Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 19,. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, July 18. The mystery aeroplane which recently frightened Londoners by low flying stunts at midnight reappeared over central London early this morning, flying at about 500 feet. Hundreds saw it.at 12.15 a.m. passing over Trafalgar Square. The fuselage and wings were plainly visible in the glare of the street iights. It was still circling over the West End at 12.30 a.m., but soon disappeared northward. It returned, however, and again flew around for some time.

It passed over the Air Ministry, where efforts aro being made to discover its identity. The Sunday Referee declares that the pilot, without disclosing his name, later telephoned defence officials saying: ‘‘To-night, to demonstrate the inadequacy of Britain’s air defences, 1 am going to drop flour bombs on the House of Commons and St. Paul’s Cathedral.”
