FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

COURT JOHN FOLLAS. There was a large attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of the Foresters’ Juvenile Lodge, Court John Follas, on Friday, the occasion being the first anniversary of the founding of the court. The president, P.C.R. Bro. M. Rosanowski, presented to Bro. Trevor Burns, who is the first Chief Ranger of the lodge, a P.C.R. badge. After the meeting a social evening was held at which members of Courts Hinemoa and Manawatu, parent lodges, and parents and friends were present. An enjoyable time was spent in dancing, interspersed with items by the children. Items were con tributed by the following: Miss June Scott’s pupils: E. Simpson, Irish jig: D. McLean, skipping dance; Laurel Black, sword dance. Miss Jean Scott’s pupils: Gloria Young, tap dance; Gloria Lavin and Joy Lane, Irish jig; pianoforte solo, E. Hartley. The accompaniments were played by Miss June Scott and Piper G. Scott. Following the supper interval Sister J. Stevens called on the Chief Ranger of Court John Follas (Sister Bovis) to cut the beautiful cake donated by P.C.R. Sister Edwards. The candle on the cake was blown out by the youngest member of the court, Sister Hartley. Dancing was continued, the music being supplied by Bros. T. Bradley, Paul, and Rosanowski. Bro. Rosanowski, who was the M.C.. congratulated the members of Court John Follas on the keen interest they had taken in the various oi>erations of the court and hoped that they would continue to do so. He also thanked those present for their attendance. The gathering was concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” COURT MANAWATU, A.O.F. The fortnightly meeting of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., was held last week, when C.R. Bro. Burgess presided over a record attendance, including visitors from other courts. The Woodwards stated that all members on the sick fund were progressing favourably . On receiving the annual appeal from the Plunket Society, it was decided to donate 15s, the same amount as last year. An invitation from Court John Fol lis to attend their first birthday was accepted, and it was decided that the court be well represented. The secretary, P.D.C.R. Bro. Edwards, will re present the court at the jubilee function of Court Sir George Grey, which will be held in Wellington at a later date.

Four candidates were in attendance and were declared entitled to admission and duly initiated into the Order hv C.R. Bro. Burgess, ably assisted by P.C.R. Bro. Robinson. P.CR.’s Bros. Rosanoski and Lane officiated as installing officers and installed the following into office for the ensuing halrvear;—C.R.. Bro. Pickering; S.C.R., Bro. Hancock; treasurer. Bro. Fletcher ; S.W., Bro. Paul; J.W., Bro. Ogier; 5.8., Bro. Bailey; J. 8., Bro. Penn; M.S.. Bro. Holgerson. At the conclusion the officers were accorded a vote of thanks and the newly-elected officers returned thanks. The bowls committee reported that a challenge had been issued to the 1.0 R. Tent for the Friendly Societies’ Shield and will be played later. MANCHESTER UNITY, 1.0.0. F. The N.G., Bro. L. Rees, presided over the regular meeting of Loyal Manawatu Lodge. M.U., 1.0.0. F. Invitations were accepted from Oroua Lodge of Druids to a social function, and from Onward Tent (Recbabites) to a social evening. Bro. C. V. Christianson, P.G., reported on sick members he had visited. Leave of absence was granted to several officerg and members from the next meeting for the purpose of visiting AYanganui to take part in a bowls tourney. Bro. A. Dawick. P.G.. master of the Provincial Lodge of Past Grands, reported that several officers had had conferred on them past officers’ degrees. It was decided to present Bro. W. R. Eyre, P.G.. F.S., with a P.G.’s jewel in recognition of attaining P.G. ra.nk, and that his name be placed on the merit board. A letter of congratulation on her marriage to a brother Oddfellow is to be forwarded to a sister of the lodge. A committee meeting was held later to arrange the programme for lodge meetings for the next quarter. When the lodge closed a ping pong tournament was held.
