TRAMPING.

MANAWATU .CLUB. The annual meeting of the Manamatu Tramping Club was held on Friday, Mr E. E. Chamberlain presiding over a good attendance. The report stated that the membership showed a slight increase, and,the total was now 76. A donation of £2 from the Ruahine club was acknowledged and it was stated that £1 had been donated to the Radio Emergency Corps. The balance-sheet showed a loss on the year of £7 10s Bd. The report added: “A very successful winter sports trip to National Bark last August attracted 22 members. A keen interest in all ski-ing matters is evinced by a large section of the club as is shown by the fact that 40 per cent, of our members possess their own skis. During the Christmas holidays a party of 22 spent nine days at WaiFiohonu hut, National Park, .and our knowledge of this district and the Kaimanawas was considerably increased. This was the ninth official club trip held within the Tongariro National Park boundaries. At Easter a party visited the eastern side of the northern Xararuas, a camp being established on Ruapai Creek, near the Ruamahunga forks. This country, new to most of our members, affords excellent tramping and was much appreciated by members of the party. During April a party of ten members carried

in the Ralph Wood memorial trig and erected it on Twin Peak. We wish to express our appreciation to our club member who designed and built this line memorial.” The election of officers resulted as follows; —President, Mr W. H. Galbraith; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr T. H. Arlidge; general committee, Messrs L. M. Seymour, A. Beattie, It. A. Fuller, J. Lambert, Mrs E. Siison, Mrs T. H. Arlidge; social committee, Messrs K. Dawick, J. Birnie, Mias M. Ekstedt. Mrs W. H. Galbraith; librarian, Miss M. Ekstedt; hon. auditor, Mr D. Glcndinning; club photographer, Mr J. Lambert. Moving a vote of appreciation to the retiring president, Mr Fuller said that Mr Chamberlain had given unsparingly of his time to club activities. In committee meetings he had preserved an excellent balance and had contributed materially to the progress of the club since he joined it five years ago. Members would wish him every success when lie removed to Auckland. The motion was supported by acclamation. A vote of appreciation was also accorded tho lion, secretary, Mr T. H. Arlidge, and the hon. auditor, Mr D. Glcndinning, who had given his services to the club since its inception.
