BUILDING PERMITS.
BIG INCREASE RECORDED. A table showing the increases that have taken place in building permits appears ip the Abstract of Statistics. The table relates to years ended March 31 and covers all cities, boroughs and town districts, together with certain counties and road districts adjacent to the main centres, and is compiled from returns furnished by the local body officials. The figures are as follow: 1934-35.' 1935-36 1936-37.
Total value. all permits £3,643.688 5,929.803 6,581.233 The value of building operations for 1936-37 (£6.581233) shows an increase of £651.430. or 11 per cent., on the 1935-36 total, and is the highest total recorded since 1929-30.
