AN EXPLANATION MADE.
REASON FOR 6000 LB STANDARD.
DAIRY FARM COSTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 15. The Dominion president of the_ New Zealand Farmers’ Union (Mr W. W, Mulholland) made the following statement in connection with the posted report of a special committee of the union on increases in dairy farm costs: “The use of a standard of 60001 b of butterfat per unit of labour was taken merely because it' ufns the standard of efficiency postulated by Government representatives in the discussion with a committee of the Farmers’ Union on dairy farm wages, and, having been postulated by the Government, was accepted by us merely for the purpose of a standard for calculation. T would like to state emphatically that the Farmers’ Union, by its use* of this figure, in no way put it forward ns the union’s considered opinion of the standard of efficiency of the labour unit in dairy industry. The union has at no time sufficiently investigated this question to have been able to express a definite opinion and it was used merely because of the reason stated.”
