TRADE TREATY.
DESIRE IN AMERICA. FRIENDLY TO BRITAIN. LONDON, June 0. The city editor or the Daily Telegraph, woo has just returned from America, stresses the extraordinary change in the attitude of the United States to international trade. Business men were unanimously behind the Administration in its desire tor a trade treaty with Britain, he says. “The American change from nigh protectionist isolationism to liberal economic internationalism is one of the most hopeful factors in the world .to-day,” he adds. “If Britain fails to meet America in a cordial spirit the consequences will he incalculable and probably estrange England and America lor generations.” The Times declares that Dominion delegates to the Imperial Conference generally agree with the statement of Sir George Schuster that an Ang-lo-American commercial * greement would be of greatest value as a demonstration that the English-speaking democracies recognise the value of international trade. Sir George emphasises the importance of Britain and the Dominions understanding sentiment in America, which feels that private British interests are a serious obstacle to trade negotiation.
