CONVERSION OF CARS
THREE WITHIN WEEK. PALMERSTON NORTH CASES. Within a week three cars have been unlawfully converted from their ownership to someone else’s use in Palmerston North, and an unsuccessful attempt was made yesterday to remove another. The sudden reappearance of this class of offence in the city would suggest that it\is the work of the same person or persons, as in each case the circumstances have been similar, the motor vehicles having been abandoned some hours after their removal. Motorists would be wise to exercise greater care than usual when leaving parked vehicles unattended in the city. While visiting a friend in Heretaungu Street, yesterday afternoon, Mr' F. R. Hunter, of Wanganui, heard a ear engine start and went outside just in time to see an unknown man driving off his sedan car. The vehicle was recovered in Matamau Street at 8.35 o’clock last night. Eariv in the evening a determined attempt was made to remove another car from where it was parked in Princess Street, but this was unsuccessful, though the right-hand door-handle was torn off.
