NOVEL MODE OF PROTEST. ELECTRICITY CHARGES. Per Press Association. /■ CHRIST CHURCH, June 7. A partial “black-out” ot lighting in the shops in the city on Saturday night was 6taged as an effective opening to the protest by the Christchurch retailers against the charges made to commercial users of electricity by the Municipal Electricity Department. Even greater darkness is expected in the city to-night, when further shops will probably turn out iheir lights, hut there are, however, some firms which have given their support to the Chamber of Commerce, which proposes to protest by conventional methods. Thus, some" retailers are not joining in the protest in its present form, while there are others who are unable to take any action since they are controlled from Wellington.
